February 4, 1998, 13 years ago when the movie Titanic was shown here in the Philippines. the movie who written, co-produced, co-edited and directed by the Oscar winner director James Cameron soared a phenomenal US$1.8 Billion ticket sales worldwide and was set as the world's highest grossing movie of all time. In the Philippines the movie banked a whooping $4.8 Million which is equivalent to P194 Million at that time.
The movie is an epic romance and disaster film about a boy and girl from different social backgrounds meeting during the ill-fated maiden voyage of RMS Titanic. RMS Titanic is the name of the largest passenger steamship in the world it owned by White Star Line. On April 14, 1912. Titanic struck an iceberg on her maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York City and sank on April 15, 1912. The director of the film James Cameron get his inspiration to the film to his fascination to shipwrecks and his idea to show his viewers the emotional message of the tragedy that he would like to convey through the film. The film indeed was very successful and bagged several awards and nominations and needless to say the Oscar wherein the movie gets 11 awards and that include the Best Picture and Best Director for Cameron.
The movies become the highest-grossing film of all time until it was surpassed by the movie Avatar in 2010 who ironically directed by the same director James Cameron. Now, 13 years after when the movie was shown and when the whole world fall in love with the character of Rose and Jack which I think one of the most popular known characters in a film in world who portrayed and launched the career of now one of the most sought after and best actors and actress of present century in Hollywood Kate Winslet and Leonardo De Caprio. The movie is said to be re-released in the year 2012 in 3D coinciding with the the ship Titanic's centennial year since it's first and last voyage. According Paramount Pictures and it's director James Cameron when they announced that the mega blockbuster movie will be converted and remastered into 3-D or three dimensional film for theatrical re-release on April 6, 2012 which will marked the 100th anniversary of Titanic's history sailing which happened on April 10th 1912.
According to Cameron, "There's a whole generation that's never seen ‘TITANIC’ as it was meant to be seen, on the big screen. And this will be ‘TITANIC’ as you've never seen it before, digitally re-mastered at 4K and painstakingly converted to 3D. With the emotional power intact and the images more powerful than ever, this will be an epic experience for fans and newcomers alike."
The movie stared by Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson, Kate Winslet as Rose DeWitt Bukater, Billy Zane as Caledon Nathan "Cal" Hockley, Gloria Stuart as Rose Dawson Calvert and directed by James Cameron among others and distributed by Paramount Picture.
