We all know that we love to watched T.V and more often whenever we spend our waking hours at home and/or simply just relaxing we see our self in front our t.v seating comfortably to our coaches watching our favorite t.v programs. Nowadays we do have the option to choose variety programs that we can watched on cable or on regular channels and among those choices are Asianovela or to be specific the Korean Drama. Korean Drama has been popularly spread throughout Asia and have contributed to the general phenomenon of the so called
"Korean wave" also know as
"Hallyu" which can be defined as the significant increase of popularity of South Korean culture around the world in terms of fashion, music, and of course Drama. Some of the internationally popular Korean dramas are the likes of
Winter Sonata, Dae Jang Geum, Full House, Stairway to Heaven, My Girl, Love Story in Harvard, Autumn in my Heart, baker King Kim Tak Gu, and Your Beautiful among others.
Its been quit sometimes since I embarked on the journey of exploring and following and watching Korean Dramas also known as the k drama and I first had my chance to watch my fist experience of Asianovela fever via the Taiwanese drama series
Meteor Garden back 2003 and since then I been watching Asianovela drama but what captured me most is the Korean drama series, I guess I fall in love how they do there drama series, the theme, the storyline, the artist, all these elements are rolled into one and create a beautiful and memorable k drama that enjoyed.
Here are my all time favorite Asianovela / Korean Drama that I watched and their brief synopsis.
Meteor Garden - Though this is not a Korean drama but I feel that this deserve to be included on the list as it has a very good reason why. In the midst of all Mexican telenovela themed that was dubbed and shows in the Philippines. Meteor Garden who become
phenomenal hit in back in 2003 which was shown in ABS-CBN Channel 2 really change the late afternoon t.v habit of almost all of the Filipino as it become a common household names and was subject to any conversation. Meteor Garden really set the trend of having a Korean dubbed series shows in the Philippines mainstream. The series was starred by Barbie Hsu, Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Vanness Wu, and Ken Chu. The series is based on Japanese manga series entitled "Hana Yori Dango" who wrote by Yoko Kamito.
The story is revolver on a poor teenage girl named
Shan Cai (Barbie Hsu ) whose parents wants to her to study to university for the rich so she can meet a rich guy who will fall in love with her and marry her and so they can get out of their poor life but the University is dominated
Dao Ming Si (Jerry Yan), Hua Ze Lei (Vic Zhou), Mei Zhou (Vaness Wu), and Xi men (Ken Chu) are the four rich and handsome but arrogant students which was known as "F4". They are all the heirs to four influential families in Taiwan. They terrorizing the schools by handling out red card to those students that simply don't like, which allow the bullies to bully the victim until all they decided to leave the schools. Until they meet San Cai who stand up against the four which lead her to receive her red card that allows her to a victim of all the bullies in schools but because of her persistent to fight back she gradually gains F4's respect and Dao Ming Si the leader of the group heart.
Lovers in Paris who starred by
Park Shin Yang, Kim Jung- Eun and very handsome and now just recently joined the military Lee
Dong-Geon. This Korean novela is another phenomenal success here in the Philippines and also in Korea. I remember that word "aja" means "fight" an expression in Korea which the equivalent of "kaya ko to!" in Tagalog is one of the expression derive in this drama which was the expression by many Pinoy. I so love this romantic comedy combined with a tear jerking episodes. The drama was set in the most romantic and beautiful city of Paris. Tae-young (Kim Jeong-eun), who used to help her father manage a small, run-down theater in the outskirts of Seoul, decides to leave for Paris to study after her father passes away. Although Tae-young makes it to Paris, she finds that she cannot afford to even pay her rent unless she works part-time. One day, she gets a job as a cleaning lady at a beautiful mansion-style apartment. Ki-ju (Park Shin-yang) was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. As the son of a multi-millionaire, Ki-ju is a bright and sophisticated gentleman with a good sense of humor. Ki-ju has only one fear in life: love. In the past, he went through a loveless marriage arranged by his parents that ultimately led to a divorce. Despite these factors, Ki-ju soon finds himself helplessly falling for the unsophisticated, yet genuine charm of Tae-young.
Only You - Starred by
Han Chae Young, Jo Hyun Jae, Hoong Soo Hyun, and Lee Chung Hee. This is one of the most beautiful Korean drama I watched and helplessly loved it. though the theme of the drama is quite common but the fact that they combine the drama of a romantic comedy and food role into one series in a more exciting, spicier and delicious way is genius. I remember that even my mother was hook in this series and together we wait for the time of its airing which was coincidentally shown in
ABS-CBN along with first two above. just like Lovers in Paris Only You was put on the prime time block or the night programming. The story is about the girl
named Eun Jae (Han Chae Young) who was a stubborn and hard headed girl who had a passion for cooking. She did not have any interest in going to college and with the help of her high school friend, Jung Hyun Sung (Lee Chun Hee)she ran away to Italy to enroll in a cooking school. Jung Hyun Sung who loved her dearly went along with her. Han Yi-Joon (Jo Hyun Jae) came from a wealthy family. He travelled to Italy looking for his mother and there he ran into Eun Jae, who had also been seeking the same person to learn the secrets to making great pasta. She comforted Yi-Joon, who was distraught over his mother’s remarrying, and they ended up making love. Yi Joon left Eun Jae the next morning over some misunderstanding. Eun Jae became pregnant and had no choice but to give up her dream and to return to Korea. Six (6) years later, Eun Jae was working in low paying restaurant jobs, Yi-Joon whose taking over the operations of his family’s business, and Hyun Sung was working as a chef for one of the restarurants owned by Yi-Joon and managed by Ji Soo Yeon (Hong Soo Hyun). Hyun Sung was good with Eun Jae’s son and he was helping out Eun Jae’s whole family financially as they had fallen on hard times. Yi-Joon found out that he still had feelings for Eun Jae as they ran into each other when he was looking for a new chef for his restaurant. The dramatic tension unfolds as the four main characters worked out their feelings for each other.
Your Beautiful - This is one of the cuties romantic comedy / drama koreanovela I watched. The story is about the top boy bands in all of Asia called
A.N.JELL, The band consists of three cute and talented young men:
Hwang Tae Gyeong, an arrogant music genius;
Jeremy, a classy guy with a sunny disposition, and
Gang Sinu, a seemingly cold and reserved prince. One day A.N. JELL decides to add a new member to the group, Go Minam. Go Minam ends up not being able to join the band because of botched plastic surgery and his sister
Go Minyeo joins the band disguised as her brother. The two siblings are convinced that joining the band is the only way to find their long-lost mother, but of course, things don’t turn out exactly as they planned. When Minyeo joins the band chaos ensues, but later she finds herself and discovers true love.
Boys over Flower - This is the remake of my first entry
Meteor Garden which is a Taiwanese drama base on the Japanese mangga
"Hana Yori Dango". The series was premiered on January 5, 2009 on
KBS2TV a Korean channel. The series has 25 episode and ended on March 31, 2009 The series will be the was the fifth adaptation of the mangga following the very successful Meteor Garden. The series was starred by strikingly handsome
Lee Ming Ho (Gu Jun Pyo) , Koo Hye Sun (Geum Jan Di), Kim Hyung Joong (Yoon Ji Hoo), Kim Bum (So Yi Jeong), and Kim Joon (Song Won Bin). The four guy who played the F4 are all equally handsome and that is one of reason why this series was being followed by many in Korea and as well in the Philippines as it was shown here as well via
ABS-CBN .
The series revolves around a girl named, Geum Jan-di. She receives a scholarship to enter a prestigious high school, Shinwa High, after rescuing one of the students from a suicide attempt while on a laundry delivery. Once there, she sees that a group of rich and handsome boys called "F4" (short for "Flower 4") are the most popular of the students, and the whole school seems to worship them. However, the F4 bullies everyone around, and whoever does not do as they wish will receive a "red card" and are punished by the F4. Jan-di, at first, hates all of them and stands up for her fellow classmates and takes the ridicule in. Eventually, she begins to have feelings for one of them, Ji-hoo, but she also discovers that the leader of the group, Jun-pyo, is falling for her as well. This is about a love triangle among Jun Pyo, Jan-di and Ji-Hoo, and how it gets solved.
Bread, Love and Dream - The series has more than 1 charters it was also know has Baker King, Kim Tak Gu but I prefer the latter. The series concluded in Korea last September 16, 2010 and was broadcast of by KBS media. This K drama was starred by the very handsome Yoon Si Yoon as Kim Tak Gu in his first lead role full length Korean drama. He was supported by Eugene who starred in some memorable k drama such us Save the last dance, Three dads with a mom and A wonderful life among others and some veteran artist in Korea's showbiz industry. The series is a family oriented series that tells story of young and determined baker to overcome many trials that comes his way and his to become the best baker in Korea. The story tell about love, envy, hatred, betrayal, friendships and family rolled into one dramatic series that even makes me cry. The dram is currently broadcast by the GMA channel 7 but prior to that I have watched through DVD and finished all its episodes.
